Auto driver beaten to death following argument over ride in TVM

Thiruvananthapuram: An auto driver was beaten to death on Thursday following an argument over a ride in Pettah, Thiruvananthapuram.

The deceased has been identified as BMS activist R Jayakumar alias Manikantan (57), a native of Anayara. According to the police, an argument over an auto ride led to the murder.

The incident took place at 11 am at the auto stand in Pettah. The police have registered a case against Kaithamukku native and CITU activist Vishnu in connection with the incident.

“Jayakumar fell down after Vishnu thrashed him. Vishnu also kicked Jayakumar on his chest after he fell on the ground,” alleged the victim’s relatives in their complaint.

Reportedly, Jayakumar, a heart patient, was rushed to the General Hospital by other auto drivers in the area. However, he could not be saved.

Jayakumar is survived by wife Rama, daughters Revathy, Chithra and son-in-law Arun.

The Pettah police have begun an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, BJP activists staged a protest demanding the arrest of the accused.
