Audit report finds glaring irregularities in functioning of Kochi Muncipal Corporation

Kochi: The functioning of Kochi Municipal Corporation from 2020 to 2021 has come under scathing criticism in an audit report prepared by the Kerala State Audit Department. One of the major findings is that the administration is silent on constructions that violate the Kerala Municipal Building Rules. The number of such illegal constructions is rapidly increasing, it said

The other major findings are:

  • The list of beneficiaries in the mayor’s disaster relief fund is not available
  • Inadequate interventions to ensure payment of property tax
  • No records on account related to the JnNURM project
  • No records on account related to Corporation’s rent collection
  • A revenue loss of Rs 1.5 crore approximately under the fund category
  • Bitumen usage in the construction of city roads is inadequate
