Audit of local bodies stopped to hide corruption, alleges Chennithala
Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala stated that the decision to avoid auditing in local self government institutions is an attempt to conceal the corruption. The audit director's direction to stop the entire auditing process in 2019-20 is illegal, Chennithala alleged.
"The audit department is responsible as per the Local Fund Audit Act. The audit director cannot decide that no audit should be conducted. The audit director concerned who ordered this should be prosecuted," he demanded.
It has been decided that no audit is necessary for Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) where huge corruption takes place and also for Kannur airport and the local body offices. This is decided when the election is nearing, as the report can affect the polls. It is an attempt to hide the corruption in local bodies, Chennithala alleged.
Chennithala also reacted to the statements of the chief minister alleging that the protests led by opposition led to COVID transmission. The negligence of the state government resulted in the pandemic transmission. The chief minister is hiding the facts and blaming the opposition. He also said the situation could have been different if the number of tests was increased.
