Attukal Pongala today; Devotees to offer rituals at homes
Thiruvananthapuram: The famous Attukal Pongala will be held today. Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, lakhs of devotees will take part in the auspicious Attukal Pongala on Saturday. Compared to the previous years, this time the devotees will perform the ritual at their homes due to the Covid restrictions.
The Pongala offering at the temple will be limited to the ‘Pandara Aduppu,’ the main hearth. The tantri of the temple will hand over the light to the chief priest from the sanctum sanctorum to light up the hearth at 10.50 am. After the Pongala ritual, Nivedhyam and offerings at noon will be carried out at 3.40 pm.
This year, none would be allowed to offer 'Pongala' (sweet offering) in public places or on roads. But people can make the offering from their homes. Devotees will be allowed to enter the temple as per the COVID protocol.
Preparing 'pongala' is considered an auspicious ritual of the annual festival of the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple.
