Attack on woman journalist: court raps police
Manjeri: The Manjeri District and Sessions Court has severely censured the police during the hearing on anticipatory bail petition submitted by three accused in the case pertaining to the attack on a woman journalist in Nilambur.
The incident related to the case occurred on Kakkdampoyil-Akambadam Road when she was travelling with her brother and a female friend on December 25 last year.
Why is the sub-inspector, who committed serious lapse in the investigation of the case, continuing in the post, the court asked.
It was slip that the three were granted station bail without presenting them before the magistrate, the prosecution admitted and informed the court that the SHO has been taken off the investigation and a department level enquiry is in progress.
Revocation of the bail is under consideration, the prosecution said.
The accused are residing within 2-km radius of Kakkdampoyil and they had attempted to apprise the media personnel and others of the elephant menace in the area, the defendant argued.
At this juncture, Judge Vasan asked on what ground did the accused take law into their hands.
Upon completion of hearing, the case has been posted to January 25 for issuing order on bail petition.
