Thiruvananthapuram: Two civil police officers of Kerala Police were suspended on Monday for their alleged lapses in handling an assault case in the city.

Jayaraj and Ranjith, CPOs of Pettah station, were suspended for failing to collect the statement of a woman who was attacked by a yet-to-be identified man, and also delaying in informing the matter to the higher authorities.

Last week, a woman was the victim of an assault in Vanchiyoor, Thiruvananthapuram here. Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, the woman said that a man attempted to attack her in front of her home at 11 pm. She quickly tried to enter the compound of her house, but the man followed her in and proceeded to grope her, touch her private parts, and physically assault her.

The complainant sustained injuries to her left eye, head, and cheeks as a result of the severe assault. There were no vehicles on the road at the time of the incident.

The woman informed her daughter, who then contacted the Pettah police. The woman requested an ambulance, but the police refused to provide one, and her daughter eventually took her to a private hospital for treatment, she said.
