Kannur: A report prepared by the rural SP here on Monday cited serious lapses on the part of Thalassery police in the case related to the brutal assault on a migrant boy. The release of the accused who was booked with major charges including an attempt to murder has been pointed out as a major lapse.

According to the report, Thalassery SHO M Anil, sub-inspector Varish Kumar and Suresh, who was in GD charge, failed to act responsibly. Department-level action is likely to be taken against them.

Reportedly, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also sought a report from the police in this regard.

Meanwhile, accused Muhammad Sihshad has been sent to the crime branch custody. The probe team is also planning to slap charges under the Juvenile Justice Act against the accused.

It is learnt that the 6-year-old boy who had been undergoing treatment will be discharged on Monday. The concerned officials are planning to shift the boy to a shelter home of the social welfare department.
