Attack of young actor: Accused to surrender soon; ready to apologise to her
Kochi: The men who tried to harass a young actress at shopping mall here are likely to be arrested on Sunday. As per reports, police have identified both the culprits. The CCTV footage of the accused were released on Saturday and this was a turning point in the case.
Meanwhile, the accused informed that they will surrender shortly and are willing to apologise to the actress. The accused hail from Perinthalmanna in Malappuram They told Mathrubhumi News that they went absconding as per legal advice from a lawyer in Perinthalmanna. They also claimed that an argument took place inside the mall.
Some people who identified the accused from the visuals had given information to the police. The police officials are trying to confirm if the suspects are the real culprits by checking their tower location with the help of Cyber Cell.
The incident took place on Thursday evening. The actress revealed through her Instagram story that she was stalked by two men when she was shopping at the mall with her family. They touched her inappropriately and later followed her, she stated.
Kochi City Police Commissioner Vijay Sakhare noticed this and directed Kalamassery police to investigate into the incident. The police assume that the accused reached the mall from Ernakulam area and then went back to the same area.
It was found from the CCTV footage that the men were wearing masks. As per COVID protocol, the customers have to record their name and phone number in the register. But the accused refused to follow this. They entered the mall on Thursday at 5.15 pm and went to the hypermarket. They did not buy anything but roamed around the place.
The men returned in Metro by 8.30 pm. The police have found that they alighted from metro and then reached the railway station. As there were no trains, they left via road. So, the police assume that they are from outside the district.
Apart from the police, the Women’s Commission and the Youth Commission also have charged suo motu case in the incident. Though the Women’s Commission was planning to record her statement on Saturday, the actress was away for shooting. After she returns, her statement will be recorded, said Women’s Commission chairperson M C Josephine.
