Attaché, consul general to be made accused in gold smuggling case: show cause notice sent
Thiruvananthapuram: The Customs decided to include the UAE consul general and the attaché in the accused list in connection with gold smuggling case. Both left to Gulf from India during the probe into the gold smuggling through diplomatic channel intensified.
The customs has sent a show cause notice to the UAE consul general. They would be made accused in the case even if they respond or do not respond to the notice. A petition to include them as accused was submitted by the customs 6 months back and the foreign affairs ministry gave permission to Kochi customs the other day.
Rashed Khamis Ali Musaiqri Alshemeli, who was in charge of the consulate in Thiruvananthapuram, and former UAE consul-general Jamal Hussain Al Zaabi had secretly left India to Gulf after smuggling of gold through diplomatic channel by a Kerala-based racket came to light.
