
Thiruvananthapuram: The attaché at the UAE consulate here, Rashid Khamis Al Asmiya, returned to UAE from India. He returned from Thiruvananthapuram to UAE via Delhi on Sunday.
The investigating officers were planning to meet the attaché after the gold smuggling case accused gave their statements. It is learnt that the attaché used his diplomatic privileges to return to UAE.
The cargo, which contained the smuggled gold and was seized by the Customs on July 5, was addressed to the attaché. The reports on his return to UAE has come to light at a time when suspicions regarding the case still exist.
Earlier, the central government had requested the UAE embassy to arrange a meeting with the attaché. Soon after this, Rashid Khamis Al Asmiya returned to UAE. It is not clear if the attaché returned following directions from the UAE authorities.
