Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for SC/ ST development K Radhakrishnan on Tuesday informed the Kerala Assembly that atrocities reported against the tribal population in the state increased by 6.2 per cent in the year 2022. Atrocities against scheduled castes have also hiked by 1.2 per cent, he added.
Minister asserted that the government has resorted to actions to deal with the low conviction rate in the cases in connection with the atrocities against scheduled castes and tribal populations.
Witnesses turning hostile has been a recurring menace in many cases. The government will intervene to keep a check on this, said the minister.
Minister also assured to form of a surveillance panel to deal with the cases pertaining to the atrocities on SC and ST populations. The law graduates from the SC/ST category will be appointed as legal advisors to support the complainants in these cases. As many as 75 legal advisors will soon be appointed under the department, the minister added.
