At 106 ‘Oldest learner’ Bhageerathi Amma offers Pongala
Kollam: Bhageerathi Amma participated in the Attukal Pongala at the age of 106. The great granny is popular as the oldest learner after passing the 4th level equivalency examination of Kerala State Literacy Mission.
She offered Pongala expressing gratitude to the goddess of Attukal for her achievements.
A recipient of the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar, Bhageerathi Amma used to visit the temple for the Attukal Pongala festival. But amid the COVID restrictions, she offered Pongala at her residence this time.
“I offered Pongala to Attukal amma to reveal my happiness over clearing the exam, winning the Nari Shakti award and receiving social welfare pension,” Bhageerathi Amma listed out the reasons for her happiness.
Her elder daughter Padmakshi Amma (87) and Thankamanipilla also assisted her to offer the Pongala.
