Assembly session begins, new MLAs sworn in
Thiruvananthapuram: The 16th session of the 14th Kerala Assembly commenced on Monday. The newly elected MLAs were sworn in at 10 am. The swearing-in ceremony began only after the assembly paid homage to former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and ex-minister Damodaran Kalasseri after the question answer session.
Konni MLA KU Janeesh Kumar was the first to be sworn in followed by Manjeswaram MLA MC Khamarudddin. Vattiyoorkavu MLA VK Prasanth, Shanimol Usman from Aroor and TJ Vinod from Ernakulam followed in order.
This will be the first day in office for Pala MLA Mani C Kappan as well, although his swearing-in was conducted earlier. Legislation of laws form the major goal of this assembly session. Bills substituting 16 major ordinances along with a few other bills will be taken up. A motion to send the important bills to the subject committees in the first two days of the assembly will also be taken into consideration.
Even though legislation is the main agenda, by- election and other political issues will also be discussed in the assembly.
With new MLAs joining the assembly, the strength of the ruling party has risen to 93 from 91, while UDF and NDA have 45 and 2 respectively.
