Thiruvananthapuram: LDF Convener EP Jayarajan alleged that the Assembly ruckus case was a politically motivated conspiracy of the Congress party. Instead of examining the points raised by the Opposition, the then Congress-led government had insulted the Assembly, accused Jayarajan.

He said even the female legislators of LDF were attacked by the Congress MLAs. The procedures of the Assembly were promptly followed after the incident. However, the move to register a case was politically motivated, added Jayarajan.

LDF convener was addressing the media after appearing in the magistrate court in connection with the case. Five accused, including Minister V Sivankutty, had already appeared in the court. All of them refused to admit the offence.

Court will examine the documents and commence further proceedings on October 26.

Meanwhile, the High Court will consider the discharge petition filed by the accused on Monday. In the petition, the accused have questioned the authenticity of the video clips, which are the major evidence in the case.

The High Court had earlier discarded the petition of the accused seeking the stay of trial proceedings in the case. The trial court, High Court and Supreme Court were approached with the plea to scrap the case following the LDF government came to power again in 2016. However, the courts discarded the petitions. In addition to this, the Supreme Court ordered that the accused must face trial in the case.
