Opposition demand Sivankutty's resignation in Assembly

Thiruvananthapuram: Soon after the government faced a setback from the Supreme Court in the assembly ruckus case, the opposition has intensified protest. They are demanding the resignation of Education Minister V Sivankutty who is one of the accused in the case. The chief minister will explain the government’s stand on the issue defending Sivankutty.

The supreme court ordered the other day that all six accused in the assembly ruckus case should face trial. The state’s petition to quash the case was dismissed by the top court.

KPCC has planned to conduct a protest march and dharna at Thiruvananthapuram collectorate on Thursday morning. Several protest rallies will be organised at different places on Friday. Meanwhile, Youth Congress also came up with protest. BJP also demanded resignation of Sivankutty.

Minister Sivankutty will not resign on the basis of the supreme court verdict. CPM had already made it clear that he need not resign even if the verdict was not favourable. The chief ministers and other leaders discussed the same after the court issued order and stood by the previous decision. Sivankutty also reacted that he is accepting the court verdict and is not resigning.
