Thiruvananthapuram: CPM is taking strategic moves in seat sharing matters so that the dispute raised by NCP regarding Pala seat would not affect the LDF. It has been decided that seats sharing and candidate selection should be done focussing on election victory.
Kerala Congress (M) and LJD joined LDF recently. The first issue is to allot seats for them. Earlier, LDF won Pala, Taliparamba, Perambra, Kalpetta and Koothuparamba constituencies defeating these parties. Some of the seats should be given to Kerala Congress (M) and LJD. An agreement should be made regarding these seats.
CPM and CPI are considering exchange of seats in Alappuzha and other places. For Kerala Congress (M), it is important to contest from Pala and Kanjirappally. CPI was hesitant to give Kanjirappally first as it was their seat. However, they have changed mind after the local body election.
Chavara or Kunnathur constituency in Kollam can be given to CPI to resolve this issue. CMP Aravindakshan faction contested in Chavara last time. As they dissolved in CPM, there is no issue of handing over the seat. Kovoor Kunjumon is the sitting MLA in Kunnathur.
Koothuparamba constituency is likely to be given to LJD replacing sitting MLA K K Shailaja. CPM has indicated that Janata Dal (S), Janadhipathya Kerala Congress and Kerala Congress Scaria Thomas faction cannot be given as much seats as they had last time.
As CPM leaders are almost sure that NCP is likely to leave LDF, a distance has been formed between the latter and the front. Though NCP would leave LDF, A K Saseendran is likely to stay with LDF. If NCP leaves LDF for giving Pala seat to Kerala Congress (M), Saseendran will be held back by giving him Balussery seat. Kuttanad seat will also be given to Kerala Congress (M).
