Munnar: UDF candidate of Devikulam assembly constituency approached Kerala High Court demanding cancellation of the election result of A Raja MLA. D Kumar said in his petition that Raja is a Christian and he does not belong to any scheduled caste.
Devikulam in the Idukki district is a constituency reserved for scheduled caste.
Raja was born to Antony and Esther, members of the CSI church at Mattupetti Kundala east division. Raja and his parents were baptised at this church. He is married to a Christian woman. The marriage was solemnised at the same church. Raja’s mother was cremated according to the Christian rituals. The family goes to church regularly, it is pointed out in the plea.
Raja categorically denied the allegations. 'This is a politically motivated complaint. I have given only truthful information while submitting my nomination. I will fight the case,' he said.
Raja, who belongs to the OEC category, submitted a fake certificate showing he belongs to the Paraya caste, D Kumar argued in the petition. Raja beat UDF candidate Kumar for 7848 votes in the 2021 elections. Raja is a state committee member of DYFI and a lawyer at Devikulam court.
