Thiruvananthapuram: As unofficial discussions are progressing in the UDF regarding the upcoming Kerala assembly election, Congress is likely to contest in about 95 seats. Last time, Congress contested in 87 seats but it may receive more number of seats as two of their allies left the front.
Muslim League will get two extra seats and CMP will get one. Some other seats are likely to be exchanged in favour of RSP. Forward Block which recently joined UDF will be given one seat to ensure representation.
Last time, Kerala Congress contested in 15 seats and LJD in 7 seats. Though Jose K Mani faction left UDF, P J Joseph faction has already asked for the 15 seats. Joseph faction had contested in Thodupuzha, Kaduthuruthy, Kothamangalam and Kuttanadu seats.
Joseph is also particular about the seats of C F Thomas in Changanassery, Thomas Unniyadan in Irinjalakkuda, Joseph M Puthussery in Thiruvalla, who left Jose K Mani faction and joined Joseph faction.
Thiruvalla is likely to be exchanged with Ranni seat. Congress may take Thiruvalla seat and give Ranni to Kerala Congress. In Malabar region, Kerala Congress is interested in Thiruvambady. If they are given the seat, League will be replaced from the seat.
It has been directed that League can contest in Eravipuram or Chadayamangalam in Kollam and RSP in Kundara. League had won Eravipuram once. If these changes are implemented, Congress will take back Punalur constituency.
UDF is also planning to introduce some celebrities in the electoral fray. Venu Rajamani who recently retired from IFS and a leading channel anchor also are under consideration. Vattiyoorkavu and Kalamassery seats are considered for fielding celebrity candidates.
