Assaulted Thodupuzha boy reported to be brain dead
Thodupuzha: The seven-year-old boy who was brutally assaulted by his mother’s lover here is reported to be brain dead, according to doctors. He is surviving with the help of ventilator. A medical board comprising of government doctors need to confirm the boy’s brain death, said Kolencherry hospital authorities.
It is reported that the blood pumped to the brain has stopped upto 90 percent. The child has undergone brutal assaults that he is unlikely to survive the crucial 48 hours, it is learnt. Even after 48 hours, the scanning reports showed his condition worsening. So, the doctors are of the opinion that his life cannot be saved.
They have informed the same to the child’s relatives and the police officers. Since the chief minister’s office has intervened in the issue, the hospital authorities have decided to take further action after getting permission from the government.
As per reports, though he has undergone an emergency surgery to stop haemorrhage in brain, the child remains in a critical condition. The skull was broken in 6 cm length and blood circulation to the brain was blocked. The blood clot resulted from a haemorrhage inside the skull.
The child has also sustained injuries in lungs and stomach which is likely to have occurred from the broken ribs. He has marks of bruise all over the body. The doctors also reported that the internal organs are seriously injured.
The boy was taken to a private hospital on Wednesday evening in an unconscious and critical condition. He had sustained severe injuries to his head. The mother and her lover had claimed that he fell off a sofa.
However, the doctors soon realised that the boy could not have sustained such injuries by falling from a sofa. Sensing that something was amiss, the doctors alerted the police. The boy was later taken to Kolenchery medical college hospital for advance treatment.
The younger brother of the boy also is hospitalised after being thrashed by the man. The boy sustained injuries on his jaw, teeth and genitals. The child is under protection of his grandmother at present.
Police have arrested Thiruvananthapuram Nandancode native Arun Anand (36), who is the lover of the children’s mother, on charges of murder attempt.
