Assault on passengers: Permit of Kallada travels bus cancelled
Thrissur: Permit of the Kallada travels bus operating inter-state service has been cancelled for one year in connection with the assault on a passenger by the bus employees.
The decision was taken by the Thrissur RTA committee. The committee found that as many as 17 complaints were registered against the Kallada travels bus. Non-cancellation of the vehicle’s permit even after serious complaints from passengers had drawn sharp criticism against the government officials and police.
On April 21, a group of students travelling in the Kallada bus were assaulted by the bus employees. The students got into an argument with the employees asking them to arrange another vehicle after the bus in which they were travelling broke down.
The Haripad police had come to the spot and solved the problem between the two groups. The police asked the travel agency to arrange another bus in which the passengers continued their journey.
However, when the bus reached Vyttila, employees of the travel agency assaulted the students. The video of bus employees thrashing the students had gone viral on social media. Following the incident police and transport department had initiated action.
Several passengers had come forward to share their experiences while travelling in Kallada travels buses.
