Malappuram: A fugitive carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on his head was nabbed by the Kerala Police from Malappuram on Thursday. Police arrested Azmat Ali, a native of Sonitpur, and his accomplice Ameer Khusmu from NIlambur. They were hiding among other migrant workers in Nilambur.

The accused absconded from Assam after facing a case for poaching of rhinos. Assam police had declared him a fugitive and announced a bounty of Rs 5 lakh to those who apprehend him.

The accused was nabbed by the Nilambur police on the basis of information provided by the Assam police. Following this, Assam police have reached Nilambur and he will be brought back to Assam soon.

As the Assam police intensified their search, he escaped to Kerala along with workers looking out for work. The investigation was stalled after the Assam police failed to find his whereabouts. However, the police were able to pinpoint his location after he contacted his relatives. Based on this, they sought the help of Kerala police and was apprehended from Nilambur.
