ASI found hanged himself in Aluva due to mental stress
Aluva: The Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Thadiyittaparambu police station was found to have hanged himself at his residence. Kuttamassery native P. C. Babu (48) was found hanged on Wednesday morning.
As Babu had heartbeat, he was rushed to Aluva District Hospital but life could not be saved. His family and friends alleged that he committed suicide due to mental torture. Babu had applied for transfer as he could not bear the stress.
Babu was on medical leave since August 18 due to back pain. He had also sent the medical certificate to the office via post. But it is learnt that the Sub Inspector had admonished him even after that. Instead of granting him leave, Babu was referred for an examination of the medical board.
Babu was emotionally down after this and had shared the incident with his friends on Tuesday night. He also had sent message in the police WhatsApp group blaming the SI.
Babu has been serving in police force for the past 27 years and was loyal driver of DYSPs in Kochi City Police. He was transferred to Rural only recently. He was about to get promoted as SI after four months.
The body was handed over to family after post-mortem at Kalamassery medical college. The last rites will take place at Kuttamassery NSS crematorium on Thursday. Babu is survived by wife Chandralekha and children Karthika and Kiran.
