Kochi: Swapna Suresh, accused in the case of gold smuggling through diplomatic channel, will again appear before the investigating agency, Enforcement Directorate, on Wednesday.
Swapna had filed a confidential statement with the sessions court in Ernakulam after she alleged that her life was under threat. In the statement, it is believed that she has reiterated some allegations she levelled against chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his family, former minister KT Jaleel and M Sivasankar IAS. Swapna had spoken to the media as well on these issues which kickstarted widespread protest in the state demanding the resignation of the CM.
The ED has accessed the statement of Swapna from the court. The questioning will be based on this statement. All eyes are now on them to know if they will summon the CM and family for questioning. Though Swapna had levelled the allegations before during the initial probe into the case, the agencies (NIA, ED or Customs) did not enter CM's office. It is unclear if there is any fresh evidence with Swapna to make ED close-in on the CM. The agency will move cautiously after seeking legal advice, it is learnt.
Swapna will also be asked to clarify the comments made by Sivasankar in his autobiographical book written after he was released from jail.
