Arrest politically motivated; Kamaruddin need not resign, says Muslim League
Kozhikode: Muslim League MP PK Kunhalikutty stated that the arrest of MLA MC Kamaruddin in connection with the Fashion Gold jewellery scam was unfair.
"It is an unnatural move to arrest a person as his business failed. Kamaruddin need not resign," Kunhalikutty told the media after a high power committee meeting of Muslim League regarding the issue.
Kamaruddin was arrested on the basis of non-existing charges. Even the investigation into the allegation was not completed. He was summoned for interrogation in the morning and was arrested by the evening. Meanwhile, the probe team said that the MLA would be arrested. All these are unnatural moves, Kunhalikutty said.
This arrest is only an attempt to resist the news on ongoing investigations into other issues. It is a political move. The government is not interested in helping the investors get back their money. But the Muslim League gives priority to it, he added.
When the case was under discussion, the party took the stand that the money of all investors should be returned. If a business venture fails, the most fair decision is to repay the invested amount within a certain period. But no time was allowed for this, Kunhalikutty stated. If they are going to arrest all who faced business failure, then many sitting MLAs will have to be arrested, he added.
The party was not aware that Fashion Gold Jewellery was facing losses. Kamaruddin was made a candidate in Manjeshwaram considering his political history, Kunhalikutty said in the press meet.
