Arrest of Sasikala: IG submits report against SP
Thiruvananthapuram: In connection with the allegation that a delay occurred in the arrest of Hindu Aikya Vedi leader K. P. Sasikala in Sabarimala issue, IG Vijay Sakhare submitted a report against SP Sudarshan.
It was SP Sudarshan who was in charge of Marakkoottam area on November 14 when the incident occurred. DGP Loknath Behera will seek explanation from SP Sudarshan on the basis of the report submitted by the IG.
Sasikala was arrested as preventive detention when clashes occurred in Sabarimala and prohibitory orders imposed. It led to a huge controversy as both SP and DySP were not present at Marakkottam when Sasikala arrived.
However, one group of police personnel supported the SP’s argument that the police officer in charge of the station can record the arrest. In the absence of higher officials, Sasikala was arrested at 2 am by women police. These women officers were later honoured.
Sasikala was arrested from Marakkottam for ignoring the police direction to return from Sabarimala. She was later taken to Pampa in the ambulance of forest department and to Ranni in police bus. Sasikala had spent about 5 hours at Marakkottam stating that she would not return without visiting Sabarimala temple.
