Kochi: The arrest of the accused bishop Franco Mulakkal in the nun abuse case is getting delayed due to the contradictions in the statements, the police told the High Court. The special investigation team submitted an affidavit in this regard to the court.
The probe team had interrogated bishop Franco on August 13 at the Bishop House in Jalandhar. In the 27-page affidavit submitted to the court, the police described the incidents that happened since then, including the new developments.
There have been contradictions in the statements of the bishop, the petitioner and other witnesses. This has to be settled. The probe regarding this is progressing. A legal notice has been issued to the bishop and has been summoned to appear before the investigation team. A four-layer protection has been arranged for the nuns and the calls to the convent is under observation, the police stated in the affidavit.
Earlier, the court had asked about the delay in the investigation, the further developments in the case and on the security cover provided to the nuns. The affidavit was submitted in response to this.
