Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that he has requested External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to arrange for special flights to evacuate pregnant women and people suffering from ailments from foreign countries.
Pregnant women constitute to 20 percent of the total evacuees at the moment. There are frequent requests coming from Gulf countries to evacuate pregnant women, senior citizens, children and those suffering from ailments. It is in this context that the CM has requested the union minister for special flights.
The CM also requested that pregnant women who are approaching due date should be given priority over others.
One of the five people who tested positive for COVID-19 in Kerala on Tuesday is a pregnant woman. The Malappuram native had returned from Kuwait the other day. Her three-year-old son has also contracted the virus.
