Palakkad: An examination carried out by the forest department officials found the presence of around 15 gun pellets inside the body of ‘Dhoni’ aka PT 7 (Palakkad Tusker 7), which was tranquilised after days of relentless efforts.
According to assumptions, the pellets could be the result of country-made gun shots fired at the jumbo as it raged havoc in residential areas.
Apparently, the pellets, which pierced its body, could have made the tusker more violent, said the forest authorities. The forest officials have reportedly removed some of the pellets themselves.
Currently, PT 7 is being kept inside a cage near the forest division office in Dhoni. “Dhoni is very calm and is not creating any trouble. At times, he does seem a little angry at the mahouts,” said the forest watchers.
Meanwhile, the task force which came to capture the elephant returned to Wayanad on Tuesday.
