Argument with friend over Instagram; 17-year-old girl dies jumping in front of train, youth held

Malappuram: The Parappanangadi police on Sunday arrested a youth for abetment to suicide in connection with the death of a girl in Vallikkunnu. The accused has been identified as Shibin (24), a native of Chelari, Malappuram.

According to the police, the girl committed suicide by jumping in front of a train following an argument with Shibin.

The incident took place on February 14 around 4 am. The girl has been identified as a plus two student and native of Ariyallur. Her body was found on the track towards the northern side of Vallikunnu Railway station.

The girl and Shibin were friends. However, they got into a heated argument after the girl installed Instagram app on her phone. Although the girl repeatedly tried to solve the issue, Shibin was not ready to cooperate.

Following this, the girl jumped in front of the train on Valentine’s Day. The accused, who was produced before the court, has been remanded.
