Kochi: During the cleaning works on World Environment Day, an argument between a panchayat vice president and neighbours ended up in a clash. The incident took place on Friday at Mulavukad panchayat in Ernakulam. Mathrubhumi.com received a CCTV footage of the incident.
The issue started as both parties engaged in an argument regarding the ownership of the land and later they manhandled each other.
As part of the cleaning works in Mulavukad panchayat ward 5, panchayat vice president Benny and a labourer arrived to remove the bushes in front of the house of a man identified as Thomas. But when Benny was removing coconut fronds from the ground, Thomas and his wife Lilly interfered and this ended up in the clash. They shoved and beat each other up.
It is learned that there were differences between them regarding the ownership of the land. Lilly has been hospitalised with bruises on her body.
Benny filed a complaint with the police stating that Thomas and Lilly intentionally interfered with the cleaning works of the panchayat. Meanwhile, Thomas and Lilly also lodged a complaint pointing out that Benny beat them up using coconut frond.
The Mulavukad police registered cases based on the two complaints.
