Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has urged pet dog owners in the state to abide by a set of directions at a time when stray dog menace is on the rise. Some of the important directions are:

  • The registration of pet dogs will be made mandatory. The applications relating to registration of pet dogs in the gram panchayat area can be submitted through integrated local self-government management system (ILGMS) portal.
  • Panchayat will provide registration certificate within three days after vaccination. A metal token/collar is required to be fitted to registered dogs at the owner's responsibility.
Meanwhile, members of civil society organizations, Kudumbashree workers, members of animal welfare groups and Janamaithri police officials will be deployed within a week to accompany dogs to vaccination centres. The local bodies will take vehicles for rent for various activities.
