Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said that a timely solution to the land issues in Idukki will be found. He was addressing the media after the cabinet meeting.
The cabinet meeting decided to grant approval to pattayams (land deeds) carrying less than 15 cents of land under strict conditions. Land that do not come under pattayams in this category will be reclaimed, the cabinet meeting decided.
The CM also clarified that if illegal constructions have taken place in pattayams granted earlier, they will be identified.
“The government aims to create a framework that helps the development of Idukki by understanding the complications. The Collector will be tasked with submitting a report after tabling all the encroachments in Idukki district. Land issue in Idukki is different from that of other areas,” the CM said.
Media reports that portray the people of Idukki as encroachers have made the residents insecure. The cabinet has decided to clarify the government’s stance in the matter. Clear data regarding encroachments will be prepared. The extent of encroachment of government land will be evaluated, the CM said.
