Mohanan
Kozhikode: Appraiser of Kodiyathur Gramin Bank who was hospitalised following a train accident died here on Thursday. He had faced allegations in a case pertaining to the mortgage of fake gold in the Kerala Gramin Bank.
It was on Thursday around 11 am, Mohanan attempted to kill himself by jumping in front of a moving train. Though the locals rushed him to the Govt Medical College in Kozhikode, he succumbed to his injuries by evening. The mortal remains are kept in the mortuary.
Police had registered a case over mortgaging fake gold for a loan of Rs 24.26 lakh at the Kodiyathur Gramin Bank. Dalit Congress district secretary Vishnu Kayyunummal, Santhosh Kumar, his wife Shyni, Kodiyathur panchayat vice president Babu Polukunnath are the major accused in the case. In connection with the case, allegations were raised against appraiser Mohanan also.
Vishnu and Santhosh Kumar were caught when they were pledging fake gold in Perumanna Cooperative Bank. Following this, police found that the four-member group had already embezzled nearly Rs 32 lakh from similar frauds. They had misappropriated Rs 24.26 lakh from Kodiyathur Gramin Bank and Rs 7.2 lakh from the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank in Agastianmuzhi.
