Police using water cannons to disperse Youth Congress activists

Kozhikode: At a time when protests against the government regularising temporary employees is gaining strength, the Youth Congress' protest to the Collectorate here turned violent on Monday.

The Youth Congress activists removed barricades set up by police and used them to block the Wayanad National Highway. Following this the police resorted to lathi charge and used water cannon and tear gas against the protesters.

Several leaders including KPCC vice president T. Siddique were injured in the lathicharge. The protesters pelted stones at the police. The police resorted to lathi charge twice to disperse the crowd.

Youth Congress took out the protest to the Collectorate around 12 pm. They expressed solidarity to the protest by PSC rank holders which was happening nearby. Later, the Youth Congress protest turned violent.
