M Sivasankar IAS-Sriram Venkitaraman IAS
Thiruvananthapuram: The CPI ministers have expressed their displeasure over the transfer and appointment of IAS officers and departmental secretaries without proper deliberation. Ministers GR Anil and K Rajan are the ones who expressed their disappointment.
GR Anil questioned the chief secretary’s move of transferring Sriram Venkitaraman IAS from the position of Alappuzha collector to Supplyco general manager. He alleged that earlier too officers of doubtful conduct were appointed to his department (food and civil supplies). Venkitaraman is named as an accused in the road accident case that resulted in the death of journalist K M Basheer.
Similarly, KA Rajan pointed out that he came to know about the appointment of gold smuggling case accused M Sivasankar IAS into the animal husbandry department from media reports only.
The CPI ministers contended that the precedent of deciding appointments in the cabinet should be continued.
Reacting to the arguments, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan slammed the rationale of the CPI ministers. “Cabinet is also a venue for raising displeasure over various matters. But, what have you done(CPI ministers)? After expressing your displeasure in a letter to the chief minister’s office, you gave the same to the media for creating news. Then what's the point in raising such arguments here?” he asked.
