Anu Abraham, PG Unnikrishnan, ES Akhil of Mathrubhumi bag Press Council of India Awards
New Delhi: Journalists of Mathrubhumi have won three awards instituted by the Press Council of India for excellence in journalism.
Anu Abraham, sub editor at Mathrubhumi Kozhikode unit, shared the award in the category of Developmental Reporting with Shiva Swaroop Awasthi, senior reporter of Dainik Jagaran. Anu Abraham bagged the award for his series of article titled ‘Padam Padikkatha Arogya Keralam’ about the Nipah outbreak in Kerala.
The photojournalism award in the ‘Single News Pictures’ category was shared by P. G. Unnikrishnan, senior photographer at Mathrubhumi Delhi bureau and E. S. Akhil, news photographer at Mathrubhumi Palakkad unit.
P. G. Unnikrishnan bagged the award for the photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi pampering the son of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during welcome ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Akhil was selected for the award for the photo of mud football. The award includes a cash prize of Rs 50,000.
Anu Abraham is son of Kozhikode Thiruvambady native Abraham Manuel and Annie Amma. Aida is his wife and Aman and Aryan are their children. P. G. Unnikrishnan is son of Kottayam Thottakkattukara native Gopala Menon and Haimavathi Amma. Lekha is his wife, and Naveen Krishnan and Navaneeth Krishnan children. E. S. Akhil is son of Kottayam Kodungur native E. V. Sivadasan.
