Thiruvananthapuram: Transport minister Antony Raju on Saturday emphasised the importance of the Constitution, while addressing the gathering organised by the Institute of Parliamentary Affairs (IPA).

“It is only due to Constitution that the country is existing after independence,” he pointed out.

Interestingly, he also took the opportunity to subtly refer the plight of former minister Saji Cheriyan who lost his position due to controversial comments on Constitution. “I am not touching further on the Constitution. When a minister touched the Constitution, the person became former minister by evening,” he said.

Meanwhile, former Lok Sabha secretary-general PDT Achary, MP Elamaram Kareem, among others who were part of the event remarked how the Constitution contributed to secularism and marginalised communities.
