Changanassery: Police arrested five people for allegedly misusing the phone number of a housewife in Changanasserry. Immediate action was taken to nab the accused after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan intervened in the case. Kottayam district police chief informed that more people will be arrested in the case.
Alappuzha natives Shaji, Ratheesh, Palakkad native Vipin, Kottayam natives Nisanth and Anukuttan were arrested over the woman’s complaint.
The five will be produced before the court soon.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan intervened in the case after Mathrubhumi News reported the pathetic story of the housewife. As per the complaint, some people circulated the woman’s phone number claiming it to be of a sex worker.
A team including Changanassery DySP, Kottayam special branch DySP, Changanassery and Vakathanam Circle Inspectors carried out an investigation and took the five into custody.
The woman is working as a tailor. As the anti-socials circulated her phone number by introducing her as a sex worker, she has been receiving over 200 phone calls daily.
Though she lodged a complaint with the police eight months ago, no action was taken until the CM intervened.
