Kannur: Amid the resurgence of ant-SilverLine protests, CPM Kannur district secretary MV Jayarajan has evoked the bogey of Maoism. According to Jayarajan, Maoist model protests are happening against the SilverLine project in the state. He targeted the Opposition and added that the protests are staged as they are anxious about LDF's re-entry to power in the next elections.

He said that the national highway project, waterway project and GAIL pipeline project were in LDF’s election manifesto in 2016 and people approved those development activities by electing the LDF government. “The then government implemented many projects that were once impossible. The people are continuing to support the government, he said.

“UDF, BJP, SDPI and Jamaat-e-Islami are orchestrating violent protests over the worry that the LDF government might get another term,” Jayarajan said. At first, they maintained that they are organizing Gandhian protest, but now is involved in Maoist model protest, he alleged.

He also urged the government to address the concerns of the people and give them proper compensation.

“At present, only a survey is taking place as part of the project. However, the protesters are misleading the public by claiming that land acquisition is in progress ” he said.
