Kottayam: The First Class judicial court at Thiruvalla here on Wednesday has directed the police to register a case against Saji Cheriyan hours after he announced his resignation from the state cabinet over his controversial statement on the Indian Constitution.

It is learnt that a case will be registered against Cherian under CrPC section 156/3.

According to reports, four complaints were filed against Cheriyan in the Pathanamthitta district within 24 hours after his controversial speech. But police didn’t take action over any of these complaints. It is alleged that the police neglected the complaints due to political pressure.

Amidst this, Saji Cheriyan announced his resignation on Wednesday evening.

Earlier on Wednesday, a Kochi-based lawyer approached the court seeking action to register a case against Saji Cheriyan over his anti-constitution remark. It is learnt that the court asked the police to book Cheriyan after considering the lawyer’s plea.
