AMMA stage shows: I-T detects huge tax evasion
Kochi: Income Tax sleuths have detected huge tax evasion committed by the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA).
According to reports, AMMA received nearly Rs 8 crore in connection with the stage shows it had conducted.
However, AMMA’s account statements mentioned a revenue of just Rs 2 crore and adds that the rest of the amount was utilised for charitable activities. AMMA could not even present the full details of expenditure, as per the copy of the report available with Mathrubhumi News.
Meanwhile, AMMA has approached the appeal authority of IT department challenging the action. It has also availed an interim stay from the Kerala High Court on legal proceedings, including recovery.
Responding to reports, Thrikkakara MLA P T Thomas has demanded a detailed investigation into the tax evasion case.
