Muhammad Suhail, Mofiya Parveen
Kochi: A highly-passionate, enthusiastic and brilliant young girl Mofiya Parveen (21), a native of Keezhmad in Aluva, died by suicide on November 23; leaving behind a number of questions unanswered.
The girl who dreamed of having a beautiful life with Muhammed Suhail (27), a native of Irumalppady Kothamangalam, ended life later by leaving a suicide note behind. She wrote in her last letters that Suhail, his parents, Yousuf and Rukhiya, and the CI of Aluva police station were the sole reason for her death.
Always wanting to do something creative, Mofiya, daughter of Dilshad and Farisa, succeeded in marking her presence in all that she did. Her amazing paintings and henna works made her popular and helped her win several awards, prizes and accolades. What made her even more popular were her poems, short stories and other writings. According to those who knew her the society lost a rare talent. Had she been alive, she would have risen to new horizons through her dazzling creations, they feel.
She was a third-year BCom.LLB (Hons) student at Thodupuzha Al-Azhar Law College. “She was an excellent henna designer and used to get works from across the state. Before her alliance with Suhail, she was getting marriage proposals and her parents wanted her to marry soon. However, Mofiya took a firm stance not to marry till the course is over. One among the proposals was from Suhail, which she had rejected. Later, Suhail sent her request on Facebook and started communicating with her. For four months, this continued and she started trusting and loving Suhail,” said Jovin, her friend.
Mofiya informed parents about this and Nikah was held on April 3, 2021. “They were living happily till one month after the marriage. Later, Suhail started avoiding her complaining about silly issues. She was working like a slave at home and even the money she got from henna work was spent to meet the expenses of Suhail's family,” said Jovin.
Gradually, their relationship became worse and Suhail wanted divorce. “He was not willing to listen to her or her parents. Suhail's family approached the mosque authorities seeking divorce from her and a discussion was held. Even during the talks, she begged Suhail not to leave her but he behaved very rudely.”
One month ago, Mofiya filed a complaint with Aluva rural SP against Suhail and his family for torturing her. Later, the two families had a compromise talk in the presence of CI of Aluva police, Sudhir. Amid the talk, CI had threatened and insulted Mofiya, said her family.
The family cited that Mofiya was disheartened after facing insults from the police officer in front of her husband’s family and this instigated her to commit suicide. After returning from the police station, Mofiya said she wanted to sit alone and went to her room. She did not open the door when her parents called her. Later she was spotted hanging in her bedroom.
All people in her close circle said in one voice that she was very bold and not a person who collapses before the challenges in life. However, the issue with Suhail affected her badly. “It was only during her issue with Suhail, I saw her upset. She was not affected by issues in life as she was very strong,” added Jovin.
Police later nabbed Suhail from his relative's house in Kothamangalam on Wednesday morning. The CI was later suspended and Saiju K Paul was posted in his place.
