Kottayam: The Chief Minister’s office has intervened in the complaint alleging police negligence in taking an accident victim to the hospital at Vembally here.
The Kottayam district police chief has been directed to investigate the matter and immediately submit a report. The directive comes after Naushad Thekkayil, a social activist, registered a complaint.
The incident took place at Vembally on Sunday evening. A vehicle hit the bike on which Ronny Joy, a native of Kuravilangad and his son Philip were travelling. The two fell on the road and sustained injuries. Ronny was bleeding profusely.
At that time, a police vehicle belonging to the Thrissur AR camp came that way. However, the officials refused to take the injured to hospital. On information, another police jeep came to the spot and took Ronny to the hospital after 30 minutes. Ronny was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors.
The police vehicle was taking an officer from AR camp who had retired to his home in Karukachal. Local residents had requested the police to take the injured to the hospital. However, the officials refused. Locals said that Ronny could have been saved had the police officers agreed to take him to the hospital.
