Allegations against colleagues over suicide of differently-abled RTO staffer in Wayanad

Funeral of the deceased- Deceased Sindhu

Mananthavady: Hours after Sindhu, a differently-abled senior clerk of the Sub-Regional Transport Office (RTO) here was found dead at her house, the deceased’s brother has come up with allegations against her colleagues.

This comes at a time when police remain clueless about the motive behind Sindhu’s death.

According to Sindhu’s brother Noble, she faced alienation from colleagues for not cooperating with bribery happening in the office. He alleged that Sindhu was mentally tortured by the officials in the office.

“She used to say that everyone is alienating her. The officials used to give her highly complicated files. She also said that the files she overlooked were missing. We don’t know what the reality is. She used to say officials are giving files with issues and she might lose her job over it,” he said.

Noble pointed out that the deceased was an adherent believer of God and she was against bribery. “She used to tell her colleagues that taking bribes is a sin. We presume that she was mentally tortured for not cooperating with them on bribery,” he said.

However, Joint Regional Transport Officer dismissed the allegations raised by the deceased’s brother. According to the official, the staff were giving special care to her as Sindhu was a differently-abled person. The official pointed out that Sindhu was a good employee and the reason behind the alleged suicide is unknown. The official explained that bribery will not take place in the office as a centralised online platform is in place for file related matters. “The officials will not be able to know who the applicant is,” cited the official to rule out the chance of bribery. The person also told that there was no work stress in the office.

Meanwhile, the panchayat president of Sindhu's locality has urged the police to find the motive behind the suicide and to probe whether bribery is happening at the office.
