Kozhikode: All visitors to the casualty of Kozhikode medical college will be subjected to COVID antigen test from now on. This was decided after three persons who were referred from a private hospital to the post-operative ward in the medical college the other day, were confirmed with COVID-19. Following this, even the staff of the ward had to be quarantined. The employees also will be subjected to COVID test.
When the staff are infected with COVID-19 and are quarantined, the functioning of medical college gets under crisis. Some wards are closed. Those who reach the medical college for other emergency treatment also are struggling as the number of COVID patients are increasing. A total of 37 patients were admitted to the COVID isolation ward in the medical college on Saturday alone. 17 among them tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, a 11-month-old baby girl who died at Kozhikode medical college the other day has been confirmed with COVID-19 in the antigen test. The baby hailing from Olavattur in Malappuram was admitted to the hospital on July 31 due to severe fever and breathing trouble. Later, she died of heart attack. She tested positive for COVID in the antigen test. The result of RT-PCR test is awaited.
