Thiruvananthapuram: Factional tussles grabbed the attention of the inaugural day of the Communist Party of India Kerala state conference here.
Kanam Rajendran inaugurated the public rally. General secretary D Raja will inaugurate the delegate conference on Saturday. Though senior most leader KE Ismail should have hoisted the flag at the public conference as per convention, it was entrusted upon Pannyan Raveendran.
Meanwhile, D Raja spent time at his hotel while the public rally was ongoing. He told Mathrubhumi News that he was not aware of the event and was informed only about the flag hoisting.
The proposed age limit to the top committees of the state has irked senior leaders Ismail and C Divakaran who would be removed from the state committee if it is implemented. It is likely that the discussion on the report that will be presented by the state secretary will reflect factionalism as the 'official' candidates for secretary post were challenged and defeated in various district conferences.
The fight will reach its peak if the rebel camp contests a third term for Kanam Rajendran in the top post.
