Kannur train hit: Nandita was alive and responded after accident

Kannur: The death of Nandita, a school student of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Kakkad on Saturday morning after getting hit by a train, shocked the entire locality.

Nandita was alive and spoke to her mother minutes after the incident.

Parasuram Express, which was late on Saturday, hit the girl while she was crossing the railway track at a level crossing at Arpanthod near Chirakkal. She was crossing the track to board her school bus, parked on the other side of the level cross.

She was along with her friend, who walked ahead of her and crossed the track. However, Nandita failed to notice the train and got hit by the time she realised it. Her mother, who drove her to the railway crossing, witnessed the accident. Her friend, who was walking in the front, came to know about the accident minutes after the train crossed the level crossing.

Locals said she was tossed away onto the side of the tracks after the train hit her school bag on her shoulder. She was alive and barely had visible injuries on her body. She even responded to the queries of locals and her mother. However, she later succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

A lottery seller said that it was such an unfortunate mishap and no accidents were reported from the place earlier, a shopkeeper in the area said.
