Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rainfall continue to batter several parts of the state and rain is predicted for another 4 days, according to the Indian Meteorological Department. As heavy rains are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, alert has been issued to maintain extreme caution.
Red alert has been issued in 5 districts of Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram on Tuesday. Orange alert is issued in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts and in Thiruvananthapuram yellow alert was sounded.
Yellow alert has been sounded in 10 districts on Wednesday in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
The Kerala bypolls were affected with submerged booths and flooded streets. Heavy to very heavy rains were predicted as the North East monsoon intensified. Kochi is the worst hit with public transport kept away in many places. Train services were disrupted and fishermen have been advised not to venture into seas.
