Chengannur: Thankamma, 64, a senile woman hailing from Mulakuzha panchayat is facing the plight of her lifetime. The only land she owns comes up to about 3.5 cents. She has built a single-room house but her 20-year-old son sleeps on the terrace due to lack of space inside the house. They had set up stones for the stove in their backyard. These stones were removed from there as part of the survey of K-Rail and a survey stone was installed in its place.

Although the locals protested against the move, the officials completed the procedure with the help of the police.

Thankamma’s son was not home during the time. All Thankamma could do as she saw the officials install the survey stone was to sit and cry over her ill-fate. Thankamma’s dream of building a proper house is still an unfulfilled one. Her brother gave her three cents of land over Life Mission. She lost her chance last time as she had no ration card. The current turn of events happened as she was moving forward after getting the card.
