Akash and Aishwarya sitting inside vessel
Alappuzha: The heavy rains and deluge in Alappuzha could not stop this young couple - Akash and Aishwarya - from getting married on October 18, Monday. The couple had a very different wedding ceremony as their area was totally flooded in the rain havoc. They sat inside a large vessel (Chembu) and reached the temple to tie the knot despite the hostile weather. The incident took place at Thalavadi in Alappuzha. Thakazhi native Akash and Ambalappuzha native Aishwarya entered wedlock at Thalavadi Panayannurkavu temple.
The couple’s wedding was fixed in advance. However, the temple and premises were waterlogged in the unexpected heavy rain and subsequent flooding. They wanted the wedding to be held at the same temple. With this, the temple authorities arranged a large vessel for the couple to reach the temple after they arrived at a nearby junction by car.
After the nuptial rituals, the couple had darshan at the temple sitting inside the vessel. Those who accompanied them ensured their wedding attire was not spoilt in flood water. The road leading to the temple was knee-deep in water.
Over thousand houses were flooded in Upper Kuttanad. Low-lying areas in Kuttanad also was waterlogged. Paddy fields and roads were flooded and traffic was disrupted in many places. People are struggling as houses were affected in the disaster.
